Hah! - good catch Brice. This photo is about 3 weeks old or so. Thus you can see it is just before the vines exploded with growth. They came out fast, and already there are quite a few tiny grapes on the vines!

@mager, @espd - thanks for your kind words. Mark, You raise some interesting points. It was late by the time I finished writing this post - but I should go back in and ad some links that help ad context to a couple terms that may not be as widely recognized.

thanks again ~

Nice description of the process, Marc. Having some insight into the way these redesigns go (and this one in particular), I know there are always some trade-offs during the process and always more features and functions the team wants to accomplish for the members of a site, some of which just won’t fit into the release.

This ZDNet redesign, however, is one of the better ones I’ve seen from CBSi in a while.

PS> You use some jargon in the post that’s probably not going to be familiar to people who don’t have your experience. You may want to link to Wikipedia or Gravatar's site for example, to explain some things.

Great article Marc. I certainly think this example takes flattery a bit too far! And I am disapointed in how often one comes across look alikes that are just that bit too similar to be coincidence.

As a designer I'm always on the lookout for inspiration and often even utalise a particular design element or function that I come across. I think this is one of the great joys of the internet - its a great way to learn and bounce off other creative people. Unfortunately I think there's such a percieved annonymity on the net that it is easy to forget how visible one's work can really become. A lesson well learnt for Web Wombat hey!

Marc - I'm an IT recruiter with a few connections to the creative world. I've forwarded your request on to one person in particular who is of course awesome and might be interested. I wish you the best of luck in your search and commend you on writing a wonderful job description.
