Yes, Feedback really can make a difference…

Users of software and services will always respond to change with mixed reaction. This is a reality that creators of interactive products always do or at least should expect. As brands work hard to innovate a product, some ideas bring improvement while others may not. Good or bad, user feedback is almost always helpful. By helpful I simply mean to include enough context that it can inform future iteration & progress. Lets face it… a simple “I love it – I hate it” does not reveal enough to build upon or respond to.

A quirky Facebook bug, or Groundhog day for my iPhone?

Recently I have been experiencing some odd quirks on my Facebook app for iPhone. Initially, I had thought that the app had simply been updated with a change to it’s primary navigation moving from a side drawer system to a bar at bottom of the app. Below you can see the new experience. However, as I asked friends and coworkers what they thought – none seemed to have this change reflected in their application experience.

A important update for CNET iPhone App and mobile

Welcome to CNET’s first ever iPad App

Last week we launched the CNET iPad App to the Apple App store and we feel strongly that it is the most elegant, simple and intuitive way to consume CNET content yet. This was one of the first projects we embarked upon as I took over the reigns of CNET design.

CBS Business, Finance & Tech News brands launch iPhone & Android Apps!

It was an exciting week for us to be able to launch our newly completed iPhone and Android apps into the the marketplace. While this first release is not as feature rich as I would like them to be, I feel good about being able to create an app framework for both platforms that we will be able to build upon in the coming months.

Design guides are fantastic to follow – but sometimes rules are meant to be broken

The use of common navigational GUIs are key in showing users how to quickly learn your App.  Apple’s iPhone SDK and visual language are very well defined which makes it that much easier to create effective navigation / user flows.
